This should’ve been a given, right? 70.7% of the votes! One of the most prolific, most viral, and most spectacular fashion shows in recent memory. Back in January, forum member sanssoleil declared: “This brought me back to life after having a really tough time lately. Fashion is back!” Congratulations to the house of Maison Margiela – and John Galliano.

The industry’s game of musical chairs continues. The year 2024 has brought us a handful of internet-breaking moments, including Virginie Viard parting ways with Chanel, Alessandro Michele taking up the mantle at Valentino, Kim Jones leaving Fendi, and Julian Klausner becoming creative director of Dries Van Noten. The latest to rock the world of fashion is John Galliano exiting Maison Margiela. It was back in January that Galliano presented the masterful Spring 2024 Maison Margiela Artisanal collection at the end of Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week. The viral and spectacular showcase has ultimately become Galliano’s swansong collection. Galliano was appointed creative director of Maison Margiela in 2014, following his exit from Christian Dior in 2011. The celebrated British designer will be leaving subsequent to a 10-year stint, while Galliano’s plans for the future remain unknown.

Revisit the Maison Margiela Artisanal Spring 2024 show:

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Off to somewhere, no?” [Kimihiro]

“Before y’all start screaming Dior. I encourage you revisit some of those threads towards the end of his tenure there. He had nothing left to contribute to Dior then and doubt anything has changed. Wonder what his next move will be? It would be nice for him to consult somewhere like he did with Oscar de la Renta.” [reese06]

“I think the best outcome would be if Galliano somehow managed to regain control of the Galliano brand. I don’t want to go back to Dior (or similar). He wouldn’t be able to handle the commercial demands of today’s landscape.” [Marc10]

“Galliano would do well at his own brand, doing clothes for his fans. I don’t think his mind/body can play the big brand game anymore.” [Alquimista]

“And now I wonder what would have happened if that January collection never became viral…” [Lola701]

“‘When the time is right, all we be revealed’. Sounds like something big is around the corner…” [Monsieur Cristobal]

“Fingers crossed this statement will live up to the hype it’s giving!! Do not want to be let down!!” [mteb123]

It has become somewhat of a tradition for us here at theFashionSpot to throw it back a whole decade, on the eve of each fashion week. You’ve encountered our New York, London and Milan installments and now it’s time to head back to the Spring 2015 season of Paris Fashion Week.

Sarah Burton was the creative force behind Alexander McQueen in the September of 2014, offering up a collection based on her very own treasured collection of antique kimonos and intricate fabric swatches. Cropped jackets and asymmetrical mini skirts had a rock ‘n’ roll sensibility at Anthony Vaccarello’s showcase and a sporty vibe oozed from Alexander Wang’s monochromatic Balenciaga collection. Riccardo Tisci sent out a gang of his model muses decked out into corsets, leather pants and thigh-high boots at Givenchy. Simon Porte Jacquemus transformed his runway into a beach scene, complete with parasols, deck chairs and the sound of waves crashing for his Spring 2015 nautical-inspired collection. Hedi Slimane continued to display his love for all-things glam rock at Saint Laurent while the late Karl Lagerfeld staged a protest at the Chanel show, complete with models (like Cara Delevingne and Gisele Bundchen) shouting through megaphones.

Anna Wintour sure does mean business when welcoming back old favorites onto the cover of Vogue. The editor who has served as the magazine’s figurehead since 1988 has brought back the likes of Jill Biden, Kendall Jenner, Zendaya and Blake Lively as Vogue cover stars over recent months,. Now, Wintour reinstates Lady Gaga as the American fashion bible’s cover star for October 2024. Precisely six years after her last, the American singer-songwriter and actress (who showed up to the 2024 Venice Film Festival in a voluminous Christian Dior gown and Philip Treacy headpiece) poses for Ethan James Green. Across a pair of dynamic covers, the Joker: Folie à Deux actress is styled by Alex Jordan Harrington. In cover one (below), Gaga wears a Balenciaga coat from the Fall 2024 Haute Couture collection. In the second, full-length alternative cover, Gaga strikes a pose in a look from Maison Margiela Artisanal designed by John Galliano.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Oh this is fantastic! Feels like a proper fashion shoot. US Vogue have been so hit and miss with Lady Gaga over the years, but this is perfection. Love the full body cover,” enthused LastNight.

“I love the covers, especially the full-length cover. It’s Gaga’s best editorial for American Vogue,” applauded forum member jeje10.

“Not even sure why that first cover even made it to print, when that second full-length cover is far more superior,” said vogue28. “Absolutely love it, and love the fact Ethan James Green was commissioned to photograph Lady Gaga. This feels very… fashion and so perfectly executed. I’m a fan!”

Not everyone, however, was convinced. “How dour and depressing. I get that this is promo for her role as Harley Quinn, but damn. Fried hair and running mascara on the cover of US Vogue?” asked WinstonH20.

“It’s lacking… something,” confessed aracic. “I can’t put my finger on it. I like the idea, but something is taking me out of the fantasy.”

Vogue Czechoslovakia September 2024 : Gwendoline Christie by Szilvester Mako

You might find it hard to believe that Gwendoline Christie had never graced the cover of Vogue before. Despite being a total fashion darling, no other Vogue editor from across the globe had chased after Christie to become their cover star – until now. Danica Kovarova ushers in the British actress as Vogue Czechoslovakia’s cover star for the magazine’s all-important September 2024 edition. Across a duo of dynamic and fashion-forward covers, Christie (who shut it DOWN closing out John Galliano’s masterful and internet-breaking Maison Margiela Artisanal showcase back in January) dials up the theatrics once again via the lens of Szilvester Mako. A dress from Simone Rocha and heels from Maison Margiela were selected by stylist Milena Zuravljova for Gwendoline to don in cover one (below). Christie then sports Prada and a pair of Jimmy Choo heels in cover two (after the jump).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“I used to be a fan of Szilvester’s photography at first but with each new shoot I find myself liking it less. He should stop with all the stupid gimmicks and focus on good composition and styling,” voiced avonlea002.

“Horrible. Do even hipsters still care about something like this?” asked Srdjan.

Matheus_s wasn’t best impressed either. “Vogue Czechoslovakia used to be so upfront, unusual, edge… now it’s just regular,” they shared.

Blueorchid shared the same sentiments toward the magazine, adding: “The editions of Vogue that try to be art mags sincerely bother me more than any of the half-baked garbage we see in British Vogue!”

“Stop trying to make this woman happen. Gwendoline Christie is not a style icon,” declared Alquimista.

“Never been one to ride the Gwendoline Christie train. Genuinely couldn’t care less about her being on the cover of Vogue. Vogue Czechoslovakia is genuinely more miss than hit nowadays, so I am not at all surprised to find myself being majorly underwhelmed by this,” vogue28 chimed in.

The year 2024 is proving to be somewhat memorable for fashion. At least in terms of designers and they fashion houses they serve. Over recent months, we’ve bared witness to Virginie Viard‘s abrupt Chanel exit and Peter Hawkings’ shock departure from Tom Ford (after less than twelve months). Not to mention Pierpaolo Piccioli leaving Valentino and Alessandro Michele replacing him. Thrown into the rumor mill, along with the Hedi Slimane exiting Celine, is John Galliano’s future at Maison Margiela.

The revered and widely-celebrated British designer is said to be set to end his 10-year tenure at the Paris-based fashion house this fall, sending the fashion world (and our forums) into a frenzy. The Central Saint Martins graduate was appointed creative director of Maison Margiela in 2014 and back in January, presented his otherworldly, instantly-viral and utterly spectacular Spring 2024 Maison Margiela Artisanal showcase underneath Paris’ Pont Alexandre III bridge.

According to multiple sources, Galliano could either make a remarkable return to Christian Dior (to which he served as creative director from 1996 until his firing for antisemitism in 2011), replace Kim Jones at Fendi or revive his own namesake fashion label with the help from the suits at LVMH – his former employer.

The suspense for any official announcements is truly killing us!

Revisit the Maison Margiela Artisanal Spring 2024 collection below:

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“I feel that if Galliano goes back to Dior, it could mark a huge shift in the industry.” [LadyJunon]

“I hope it’s not true. If it is, Anna Wintour better be ready for another drunken outburst by John in the near future. 2024 fashion system will chew Galliano up and spit him out.” [avonlea002]

“Ohh. I pray to GOD this is true!” [Scotty]

“As long as he don’t put his hands on Chanel, it’s fine. Chanel should be a house for forward thinking vision.” [Alquimista]

“I love John Galliano, but going back to Dior could be his biggest mistake ever. I just hope he goes back to his own brand only, so he could be free to create whatever the hell he wants (without having to chase another designer DNA).” [jeanclaude]

“I do hope John isn’t about to return to Dior. The workload and pressure would be worse now than in 2011. Fendi though? I can see it.” [Druscilla_]

“Fendi would be such a strange strategy. John’s work is so British and so French. Never once in his career did John Galliano’s work every feel Italian.” [lookatme]

“All gods of fashion, please let it be his own brand!” [Olaffo]

“Galliano doing haute couture at his own label with some solid LVMH could either be a fresh burst of creativity or stale regurgitations from the past. Either way, I am here for him getting his label back. I truly hope it happens!” [Salvatore]

A good ol’ flashback has become somewhat of a tradition here at theFashionSpot. Ahead of the imminent fashion festivity that is the Fall 2024 season of Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week, we’re throwing back to the Fall 2014 season.

Raf Simons was the creative force behind Christian Dior, who ultimately split up his couture collection into eight sections and set out to give past concepts conjured up by Monsieur Christian Dior himself a modern twist. The late Karl Lagerfeld ingeniously incorporated cement and neoprene into the finale bridal look at Chanel, worn by a pregnant Ashleigh Good. The Alexandre Vauthier Fall 2014 couture show was full of slit dresses and exposed legs while at Viktor & Rolf, low-pile carpet was masterfully transformed into minidresses, cocooning capes and off-the-shoulder coats. Striking silhouettes of black worn with impossibly-high stilettos opened up Jean Paul Gaultier, with the famed French fashion designer (still the sole creative force behind his own eponymous house) ultimately inspired by all-things Vampires. Donatella Versace dialed up the gothic glam with her dark, glamorous and über-sexy Atelier Versace collection, debuting an array sequinned skin-tight dresses for the ultimate Versace vixen.

Ahead of the festivities upon us that is the Spring 2025 season of Menswear Paris Fashion Week, we’re flashing it back to the Spring 2015 season, and traveling back in time to June 2014.

As you can expect, just as we encountered when reflecting back on Milan Fashion Week, the biggest change a decade ago was the creative directors reigning supreme at the time. Installed at the top job at Dior Homme was Kris Van Assche (who served as creative director from 2007-2018). The Belgian designer served up an explosion of primary colors, complete with his whole collection oozing a childlike simplicity. On the opposite end of the scale, Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy went completely monochrome. The first few looks from Tisci’s edgy and graphic collection comprised entirely of simple black tailoring. Hedi Slimane’s Saint Laurent collection for the Spring 2015 menswear season was an ode to glam rock while Kim Jones at Louis Vuitton dialed up the modernity, with a sleek lineup of sharp tailoring and covetable accessories.

The British edition of GQ (or any edition of GQ for that matter) doesn’t exactly command our attention here on theFashionSpot every month. British GQ‘s 2024 annual Heroes Issue, however, has caught the eye of members of theFashionSpot forums, given the fact Anya Taylor-Joy is welcomed as cover star. The British-American actress, fresh from the cover of American ELLE and the 2024 Cannes Film Festival red carpet, poses for photographer Jack Bridgland and is styled by Lisa Jarvis. In the unconventional cover image, the star of George Miller’s Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga takes a call (on a Motorola Razr) while donning a Givenchy coat and a pair of glasses from the Maison Margiela x Gentle Monster collab.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“What a joke! They wasted Anya Taylor-Joy! This looks like King Kong Magazine. Not even worthy of Paper Magazine,” exclaimed forum member TomBlanksFullFatMiuMiu.

GQ chose the worst picture for the cover,” pointed out kokobombon.

Vogue28 wasn’t buying it either, commenting: “My absolute biggest pet peeve with magazine covers is when subjects aren’t looking out toward us readers! This would’ve been a thousand times more engaging if Anya Taylor-Joy was looking out toward us. A thousand times better!”

Not everyone, however, was left so dissatisfied. “I don’t think Anya Taylor-Joy is the ideal subject for GQ but I love the cover,” admired WAVES.

“Gorgeous and over the top,” applauded ivano.

V Magazine #148 Summer 2024 : Anne Hathaway by Chris Colls

The fashion industry continues to embrace Anne Hathaway like there’s no tomorrow. In such a short space of time we’ve encountered the American actress down at the newsstand as a Vanity Fair cover star and sat back and watched as Donatella Versace welcomed her muse as the face of the Versace Icons campaign (again) for 2024. V Magazine is the latest to jump on the Hathaway bandwagon, with the unveiling of the publication’s Summer 2024 covers. Via the lens of Chris Colls and styled by Gro Curtis, the Academy Award-winning talent poses for the first time as a V cover star and partakes in a gender-bending shoot across a twosome of dynamic covers. In cover one (below), Anne suits up in head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana Alta Moda and dons a look from the viral Maison Margiela Artisanal collection in the second cover (after the jump).

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“I do not understand Hathaway’s appeal but the cover with the Maison Margiela is beautiful. Love everything about it,” enthused MModa.

“What in the graphic designer hell is that font and the amateurish typography? It looks as if the font didn’t make it through the export so InDesign put Myriad Pro in its place. I can’t even look at the image,” shrieked forum member RaisinBoy.

Also quick to suggest V‘s art direction isn’t up to scratch was thiago, commenting: “Back in the day at art school, I always had V Magazine on my mood board. Now their font choices are pure trash. It absolutely kills the cover shot (which I’m not really buying t- same styling as the runway once again). Can we have Anne in Versace?”

“Neither of the two covers rock my world but I can massively appreciate Anne Hathaway’s ability to adapt and become something else via the lens of different photographers. Not many actresses/celebrities would be willing to participate in such a shoot,” voiced vogue28.
