The post Forum Members React to Rumors Donatella Versace Might Exit Versace as Creative Director appeared first on theFashionSpot.
]]>Rumors have been rampant over recent weeks that Donatella Versace is to exit Versace as creative director. In December, sources reported that Italian fashion label (and Jimmy Choo) were being considered for sale by Capri Holdings, the parent company of both brands. Capri is reportedly working with the English bank Barclays to find buyers for the two brands. Donatella’s contract is reportedly up for renewal in February, and rumors are swirling within the industry that the contract will not be renewed. Donatella became creative director of the iconic Italian label (founded in 1978), following the untimely passing of her brother Gianni Versace in 1997. Over the past 27 years, Donatella has ultimately been responsible for countless cultural moments that have shaped the fashion world we know today.
“Who can do this other then Donatella?” [brandon J pierre]
“It’d be such a pity if Donatella Versace stepped down. She IS the brand for me. Although it seems like they are stuck at the moment.” [Thefrenchy]
“She is definitely an icon of the brand. However, that gives the new CD a lot to work from as far as iconography and what she brought to the house in a fresh way. The tribute collection was the best and worst thing that happened to Donatella. After that she became stuck.” [reese06]
“I don’t think that Donatella Versace currently has a say in the design process (not for a while). It is probably a design team. Ricardo Tisci would be interesting!” [Pradaromance2025]
“I’m desperately ready for a new vision of Versace, but one that digs deep into what Versace really is about. I want the sexy and glamorous with slight hints of tacky Versace back with great craftmanship. I also want Atelier Versace back.” [Salvatore]
“Can you imagine the wealth of iconography her successor will have at their disposal?” [GoldenPetals]

Up next… the Versace Fall 2024 collection.
Back in February during Milan Fashion Week, Donatella Versace was heavily influenced by the punk movement. The vast showspace was dressed in a plush black shag carpet and a white staircase, with a soundtrack of Siouxsie Sioux blasting out the speakers. A handful of models sported spiked hair and heavy eyeliner, while others were styled with poker-straight hair. The collection’s color palette was mostly in black, white, and red. Tweeds and signature Versace metallic made an appearance too, with the collection closing out with a series of desirable chainmail dresses.

]]>Day four of Milan Fashion Week has truly been the gift that keeps on giving. Donatella Versace just closed out the fourth day of the Milanese fashion festivities, with a collection looking back into the rich Versace archives – in particular the Spring 1997 Versus collection. Tonight as dusk fell over the Italian metropolis, guests were ushered inside the historic Sforzesco Castle for the unveiling of the Versace Spring 2025 collection. Gigi! Mona! Anok! Vittoria! Angelina! All the top models of today were at hand to walk the courtyard runway within the majestic venue. A harmonious mix of patterns of floral and wavy prints on cardigans and sequin skirts. Hints of blue, brown, and metallics were splashed throughout the collection, infused with a 70s nostalgia. The iconic Versace Bright Crystal perfume bottle got an upgrade, transformed into an acetate clutch.
“I’m so tired of Donatella at this point. Everything she’s done in the last decade has either been a sh*tty archive rehash or a even sh*ttier attempt at being ‘Sexy Prada’.” [LadyJunon]
“What a lovely Missoni collection.” [Magic Spells]
“What in the identity crisis was that? It looked like a bad Versus collection that has been rotting in the warehouse since late 90’s. The draping numbers towards the end were offensive. Donatella should retire.” [avonlea002]
“Embarrassing. Worst Versace show ever and the worst show of the season. It’s Missoni, with Miu Miu Arcadie bags and all the high school girlie charms attached. So Miu Miu from last year. Not a single decent look in sight.” [FashionPower]
“There’s no way this is Versace. It looks like a collection for a Versace girl who doesn’t want to retire. I see inspirations from Missoni and Miu Miu but dear Donatella, what works for others might not work for your brand.” [badgalcrush]
“More palatable than her recent collections.” [tourbillions]
“I really liked it! I think at this point, Donatella has used all the Gianni references she could, so why not have a look into her own Versus archives?” [Lola701]

]]>The post The Must-See Looks From the 2022 Grammy Awards appeared first on theFashionSpot.
]]>We have to admit that we always expect the unexpected when it comes to red carpet fashion at the Grammy Awards. This year we were surprised at the relatively tame nature of most of the looks. Sure, there were a few crazy getups. But most attendees at the 2022 Grammy Awards opted to go glam. Not that we’re complaining.
Lady Gaga and Halsey went Old Hollywood rocking Armani Privé and Pressiat, respectively. Olivia Rodrigo’s Vivienne Westwood gown was enhanced by opera gloves and chokers. Tiffany Haddish sparkled in a glitzy Prada number. Dua Lipa’s elaborate black dress was instantly recognizable as a Versace thanks to all the Medusa accents. And H.E.R. took inspiration from Aretha Franklin for her custom Dundas jumpsuit.
Some stars took a more minimal approach. Hailey Bieber wore a sleek Saint Laurent column gown. Her layered necklace and delicate earrings were also pretty understated. The strappy neckline of Lily Aldridge’s black dress was anything but basic. It also perfectly complemented those strappy sandals.
A couple of suits really turned heads. Brandi Carlile’s Hugo Boss ensemble was blinged out, including the waistband and sides of the trousers. Elle King topped off her red set with an enormous hat.

“Love this,” wrote Xone. “Love it! Now this is Vogue Italia,” Urban Stylin pointed out. FashionMuseDior shared the same sentiment: “I absolutely adore this. I want to buy it just because of Donatella.” “This one is a must-have! Love the glamour of it and the styling and I particularly love the thought of Donatella Versace on the cover of Vogue! All the right elements, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott luckily brought out their good aesthetic for this,” raved aracic. “A sight for sore eyes… A real thrill to see an actual Italian icon like Donatella on the cover of an Italian fashion title and just feels like an added bonus that Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott captured Donatella so perfectly!” exclaimed vogue28. ]]>Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott have been Donatella Versace’s mainline campaign photographers of choice for three seasons (after ditching forum favorite Steven Meisel). The storied Italian fashion label’s Spring 2022 campaign outing marks the creative twosome’s fourth consecutive offering, which pays homage to iconic Versace imagery from the past by Richard Avedon. In an ode to sisterhood, Donatella welcomes the industry’s most famous siblings Bella and Gigi Hadid even showing off the high-octane collection alongside the pair in one ad (below).
The campaign took our forum members by surprise. “This is quite spectacular. Gigi and Bella look incredible and the choice to include Donatella was brilliant,” applauded aracic.
“Always love seeing Donatella! She was a great addition to the campaign,” enthused thiago:).
“This is a nice campaign, very joyful and sincerely emotional! It is a pleasure to see Donatella, after all, she is an icon…” agreed dontbeadrag.

“Bella, Gigi and Donatella turned this out and worked hard for the money,” added reese06.
“The inclusion of Donatella herself was a brilliant decision and I’m always down for a Bella and Gigi double act moment. Everything just feels so vibrant, glossy and just so quintessentially Versace. What’s not to love?” asked vogue28.
“Gigi looks like a supermodel from the late 80s (Michaela Bercu) and Bella from the early 90s (Carla Bruni). They have a vintage look that works,” ivano pointed out.
“Oh, loving this! Best Spring 2022 campaign so far for me,” raved amby.

]]>Donatella Versace sure knows how to grab headlines. The designer just won Milan Fashion Week by having Jennifer Lopez close her Spring 2020 show in a revamped version of that iconic Grammys dress from 2000.
Surprisingly, Donatella made the revealing dress even more of a skin show by removing the sleeves and opening up the skirt. Let’s face it: only Jenny from the block could pull it off. The barely-there dress featured that trademark palm tree print, which was also heavily represented in the rest of the Spring 2020 collection.
Donatella introduced the scene-stealing moment by asking Google to show “pictures of that green Versace dress.” After her wish was granted, she asked to see the real thing and then hello J.Lo.
Now that’s how you do fashion week.
