You’re no doubt fully aware that (just like any other major fashion brand), Louis Vuitton likes to take full advantage of their brand ambassadors. Subsequent to signing on the dotted line with the storied French fashion house in 2023, Zendaya has since fronted advertising campaigns for the Capucines handbags and worked looks designed by Louis Vuitton creative director Nicolas Ghesquière like there’s no tomorrow. As a result, it comes as no surprise to see Zendaya become the face and embodiment of the Louis Vuitton x Murakami collection for 2025. The multi-faceted American actress teams up with Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin for the occasion, captured with their photographic studio and super-imposed onto various cityscape backdrops. The kitschy campaign imagery is complete with styling from Law Roach.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“I&V have gone so downhill and pedestrian with their photography. Everything they shoot screams cheap,” immediately criticized Gabriel29.

“It’s flat and bland in the worst possible way,” Norden chimed in.

“Really not loving the America’s Next Top Model style of posing and photography,” voiced GivenchyHomme.

Yet not everyone was left so disappointed. “Love it! I love how unapologetically in your face the Murakami illustrations are and I love how it harkens back to I&V’s earlier 90s work with the superimposed backgrounds,” admired forum member mikel.

“I love it! So tacky, so purposefully cheap, so pop,” GivenchyAddict enthused.

Fashionsavvvvvy commented: “It’s very youthful and in the Y2K trend. I think it represents the mood of the collaboration well.”

Anna Wintour has been at the helm of American Vogue for almost four decades. Throughout 2024, the legendary fashion figure has served up the likes of Miuccia Prada, Zendaya, Jill Biden, Blake Lively as cover stars, in addition to inviting Marc Jacobs to guest-edit the December issue. Now, for the American fashion bible’s digital December 2024 offering, Wintour champions affordability and accessibility within the world of fashion. Captured by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin, models Vittoria Ceretti, Loli Bahia, Devyn Garcia, Angelina Kendall, Amelia Gray, Lulu Tenney, and Anok Yai become Vogue cover girls in the process. The models of the moment huddle together in the studio against a grey backdrop, styled by Camilla Nickerson and dressed in pieces priced between $7 and $1,000.

“I legitimately saw more compelling pictures on America’s Next Top Model,” exclaimed helmutnotdead.

“Creativity for everyone but the people at Vogue,” voiced an underwhelmed avonlea002.

“Absolutely awful. Also, is it just me or has I&V really fallen off?” mepps asked.

Yet not everyone was left so disappointed. “I love the cover, models, styling, and composition! The cover looks fresh and exciting,” admired MModa.

“Actually kinda love it, and I’m here for Anna Wintour stepping up her game with these model covers for us. As a group cover photograph, everything is working for me – I love the jeans and white top combo. All the girls look great!” enthused vogue28.

“I like it! Not perfect by any means and that grey background… well. I don’t expect much (or anything really), from I&V but the model selection is very on point,” WAVES praised.

Right now, Chanel remains without a creative director, following the abrupt exit of Virginie Viard in June. The show, however, must go on, and the fabled French fashion house continues to release collections and campaigns without an official designer at the helm. For the sake of familiarity, Viard favorites Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin remain on the books as campaign photographers. The Dutch creative twosome were ultimately commissioned to lens the Chanel Eyewear campaign for the Fall 2024 season, starring model of the moment Ella McCutcheon. The Australian beauty poses solo throughout the series of portrait campaign images, reclining in each of the shots on a cream leather couch.

“I can’t wait for the I&V era to be done,” Lola701 cried out.

“This is the cheapest and most amateur eyewear campaign I’ve seen from a luxury brand. Model looks like your average girl with zero effort and skill. Photography is nonexistent. Everything looks dirty, especially that leather couch,” chimed in audace.

“These photos are so lifeless,” critiqued Ihhbl.

Urban Stylin commented: “I love the 70s vibe but this doesn’t feel Chanel.”

“Slap the Gucci logo on these, and they’d fit right up into the Alessandro Michele tenure. These just simply do not feel Chanel enough, whatsoever,” vogue28 echoed.

“Depressing and so damn beige,” disapproved forum member Cocteau Stone.

Change is in the air at Harper’s Bazaar Italia. Massimo Russo was named editor-in-chief in July (succeeding Daria Veledeeva). Stefano Tonchi is the editorial director, and Paul Sinclaire was appointed fashion editor at large last month. The first issue under the new team is here for October 2024.

To kick-start Bazaar‘s Italia’s latest chapter and to officially usher in the changing of the guard, Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin were commissioned as cover shoot photographers. The Dutch creative duo produces four collectible black and white covers for the occasion, featuring four models of the moment. Cover one sees Nigina Sharipova strike a pose in Alaïa. On the second cover, Libby Bennett takes to the streets of Paris in monochromatic Balenciaga. Ella Mccutcheon gazes down I&V’s lens wearing Chanel on the third cover offering. The fourth and final cover sees Vivienne Rohner take a walk along The Seine (also sporting Chanel).

The magazine undoubtedly needed a refresh, with each cover/issue starting to feel the same. The first cover with Nigina Sharipova is the best, it’s giving me Veruschka by Richard Avedon and I love the purple with the black and white,” he applauded.

“Love everything about the cover with Sharipova,” MModa echoed.

You might not need reminding Virginie Viard is out at Chanel (with a replacement yet to be appointed). The first advertising campaign post-Viard’s abrupt and unexpected departure is here, for Fall 2024. The Deauville-inspired collection ultimately became Viard’s last as creative director, unveiled during Paris Fashion Week back in March. Viard’s firm faves Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin were enlisted to capture the accompanying campaign. Chanel brand ambassador Margaret Qualley was called upon to be the face and embodiment of the collection. The American actress dons a dark bob hairstyle throughout the playful and cinematic series of campaign images, set against an array of Paris backdrops.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“This can’t be real,” exclaimed fenty the moment the campaign struck.

“The collection was about Deauville and they shot it in Paris? If getting rid of Virginie means getting rid of I&V, I’m even more than happy,” Lola701 noted.

Creative commented: “Can’t get over how bad this is!”

“It’s the fake background that bothers me,” complained Hchloe.

“So pretentious and trying hard to be artsy. Totally not Chanel,” voiced an unforgiving tourbillions.

“Might as well just commission a cartoon featuring French stereotypes. It would get their highly evolved message across while appealing to the younger audience they seek to connect with,” voiced tigerrouge.

“Hideous, absolutely hideous. Never minded Margaret Qualley for Chanel and thought I&V’s campaign last season was flawless but this is just a complete eyesore. It’s the whole collage concept with the fake-looking backdrops that is what kills this, and the questionable wig on Qualley,” noted vogue28.

Michael Kors has been synonymous with jet-set glamour for decades. After all, we’ve been transported to a whole multitude of ultra-fabulous locations with the brand’s advertising campaign imagery. The Spring 2023 season saw models Mica Argañaraz and Mona Tougaard take Monte Carlo. Vittoria Ceretti jetted off the majestic Italian island of Capri last season, but the Michael Kors woman is staying put for Fall 2024. There’s no signs of luscious landscapes this season, as photographers Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin stay inside the comfort of their photographic studio. Models Julia Nobis, Anok Yai and Lina Zhang assemble before the lens of the Dutch creative twosome. The girls pose throughout a series of simplistic campaign imagery, shot against a clean grey backdrop.

WAVES agreed, echoing: “Lina is killing it this season. She looks fierce here!”

“Love this. The Anok Yai shot is my favorite,” shared ghostwriter10549.

Vogue28 voiced: “Quite surprising to see Michael Kors come out a studio-shot campaign. I’m so used to being whisked away to sun-drenched locations via his advertising campaigns. I’m not complaining, because this campaign is quite strong and appealing – love the simplicity. Never been a one for Julia Nobis but I’m here for the casting. All three girls look incredible!”

Sara Moonves continues to demonstrate her ability to secure the crème de la crème of the world of fashion, film and beyond for the front covers of W Magazine. Throughout 2024 alone, faces belonging the likes of Margot Robbie, Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus and Hailey Bieber have greeted us down at the newsstand. Another crop of A-list talent surface on the magazine’s latest for Volume #4 2024. In cover one, Hunter Schafer (in Prada) shoots a look down the lens of Tim Walker. Cover two sees Tyler Mitchell photograph Zoë Kravitz, who ponders her thoughts at the dining room table (dressed in Saint Laurent). Sabrina Carpenter makes her W Magazine cover debut via the lens of Zoë Ghertner, sporting a leopard print coat from Christian Dior. On the fourth and final cover selection, Anna Sawai dials up the glamour in Chanel, captured by photographic duo Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“The best from Tim Walker in years,” heralded matheus_s upon seeing the cover with Hunter Schafer.

“My biggest pet peeve is when magazines do multi-covers, each with a different concept and photographed by different photographers. Quite evident from the outcome that the Hunter Schafer cover was the only one required here. Undoubtedly the strongest out of the bunch!” enthused vogue28.

“Hunter’s cover is enough,” echoed oaklee91. “The others are so lackluster compared to it!”

“Zoë’s cover is beautiful,” Fiercification admired.

Kokobombon said: “Anna Sawai’s cover is my favorite. I can’t believe I’m loving an Inez & Vinoodh cover!”

“Might’ve spoken too soon about Hunter Schafer’s cover. That Anna Sawai cover from Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin is exquisite, and perhaps I&V’s best cover shoot in a very LONG time. Fabulous styling from Katie Grand, and equally as flawless beauty styling,” raved vogue28 upon returning to the thread.

The September/Fall 2024 issues are currently the gift that keeps on giving. V Magazine is the latest to drop their fall fashion extravaganza and is celebrating its 150th print issue this month. To commemorate such an occasion, V‘s long-serving editor Stephan Gan is keeping it in the family with the unveiling of Issue #150, by welcoming Gigi Hadid as cover girl. Making a return to the cover for a third time, the American beauty (and current face of the Rabanne Million Gold For Her fragrance) poses before the masterful lens of Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. Across two dynamic and collectable covers, Hadid gazes down the Dutch photographic duo’s lens for a duo of portrait cover photographs.

“Awful model by awful photographers,” critiqued avonlea002 the moment the covers struck.

“Gigi Hadid has really lost it, hasn’t she?” quizzed an underwhelmed WinstonH20.

“You can’t lose something you never had,” replied forum member DK92.

ReneSanchez voiced: “For such a celebratory issue, this feels like such a non-event.”

“What the hell is going on?” asked kokobombon. “It’s not even Gigi’s fault. I’m looking at you I&V and V Magazine‘s design team!”

“Seen better. Seen worse, both from Gigi Hadid and Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. Not the worst covers I’ve seen from V Magazine either,” reasoned vogue28.

MModa wasn’t exactly hating on the outcome either. “Although it is not perfect, I do like the first color cover featuring Gigi. It is very I&V – from the makeup to the graphics,” they shared.

Given that Emmanuelle Alt’s Vogue Paris is no longer, it seems Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin have subsequently set up shop with Karla Martínez de Salas at Vogue Mexico. In 2023, the Dutch photographic duo were called upon to capture Irina Shayk and Anna Ewers as Vogue Mexico cover girls. More recently, back in March, the creative twosome turned the lens toward Christy Turlington, Angelina Kendall, Mahany Pery (and others) for a series of celebratory and collectable covers. Amelia Gray and Mathilda Gvarliani are the latest to pose for I&V on Vogue Mexico and Vogue Latin America for June 2024. In the Mexican Vogue cover photograph (below), Amelia takes to the wrestling ring wearing Louis Vuitton while for the Latin America counterpart (after the jump), Mathilda is dressed by stylist Valentina Collado in archival Jean Paul Gaultier.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“Both are terrible. The concept of Lucha Libre within the Mexican culture is a good idea. However, the covers are awful,” shrieked Alejandra Isami.

“Love the idea, hate the execution. All looks so amateur and beneath I&V,” Xone chimed in.

“I don’t know where to point the blame,” added marsnoop2. “Imagine back in the day how many countless editorials were cancelled for far less egregious reasons!”

Mikel pointed out: “I like it when I&V are going back to a cut and paste style. But without M/M Paris involved it looks really weak.”

Also far from impressed was aracic. “This looks utterly cheap and horrid and I can’t believe that it is produced by the same people who once used to create magic together,” he critiqued.

“I thoroughly despise collage covers. I’ve never seen a good one, and the bad ones are worse than awful,” shared forum member tigerrouge.

As guests took their seats at Virginie Viard’s Fall 2024 Chanel showcase during Paris Fashion Week earlier this month, attendees were treated to a short film by Inez van Lamsweerde & Vinoodh Matadin. Starring Penélope Cruz and Brad Pitt, the cinematic piece was inspired by a scene from Claude Lelouch’s 1966 French movie Un Homme et Une Femme. As it turns out, the film is part of Chanel’s latest handbag advertising campaign for the fabled French fashion house’s iconic flap handbag – the 11.22. Staged in the Normandy seaside town of Deauville (which ultimately served as a focal point for Viard’s Fall 2024 collection), Penélope and Brad play the role of a pair of lovers. The cinematic duo are captured down on the beach, driving through the resort and inside the hotel’s restaurant throughout the charming campaign.

Read below the reactions of theFashionSpot’s forum members:

“The campaign seems cold. There is no chemistry, everything seems forced. To make matters worse, Brad did his job better than Penélope, who is one of the most beautiful women in the industry. Another MISS for I&V!” shared DK92 the moment the campaign struck.

Sharing the same attitude was justaguy: “I actually like the concept of this campaign, but those two have zero chemistry.”

“Almost anyone other than Brad would’ve been preferable,” chimed in KoV.

“Great concept, terrible execution,” wrote plentyofthorns.

“I guess this is how they announce that the flap bag now costs more than €10,000,” pointed out Br3ncon1.

Vogue28 stated: “I find Penélope Cruz just so unbelievably attractive and alluring that I cannot help but be like a moth to a flame, and instantly drawn to this. Brad and Penélope have great chemistry here, and I think it has been beautifully shot by I&V. My favorite are the he shots/scenes down on the beach.”
